Where it came from
Dramatic Entrance was released in 2008 as part of the Shadowmoor expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set explored a world of perpetual twilight and duality, shifting the aesthetic focus of the game toward darker, high-fantasy folklore themes. The card was designed as a rare green sorcery, intended to provide players with a high-impact way to bypass mana costs by putting a green creature directly onto the battlefield from their hand.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, a prolific illustrator known for his dynamic and atmospheric work within the Magic: The Gathering universe. Moeller utilized a painterly style to capture the sudden, erupting energy of a creature appearing through a magical rift, aligning with the set's themes of volatile transformation. Upon release, the card was received as a flavorful addition to 'Big Green' archetypes, valued for its ability to create unexpected board presence during competitive play.
