Where it came from
Dramatic Finale was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set for Magic: The Gathering. This specific card, numbered 180p, features the distinct frame and artwork treatment associated with the set's promotional releases, which were designed to highlight the aesthetic of the five competing colleges at the titular magical university. The card reflects the lore of Silverquill, the college focused on the intersection of light and shadow, and emphasizes the power of using words and ink as weapons.
The artwork was created by illustrator Magali Villeneuve, a celebrated artist in the fantasy gaming space. Villeneuve designed the piece to capture the high-stakes, theatrical nature of a final confrontation at the university, utilizing the high-contrast visual style signature to the Silverquill faction. The card was well-received by players for its thematic resonance and its utility in limited formats, serving as a standout example of the set’s emphasis on mechanically linking the colleges' philosophies to their gameplay effects.
