Where it came from
Dreamshaper Shaman was originally introduced in the Theros Beyond Death expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2020. The card was designed to support red-aligned deck archetypes that prioritize chaotic transformation and artifact-based value, allowing players to exchange permanents for random threats from the top of their library. This specific iteration, numbered 108, was featured in the 2022 Double Masters set, a premium reprint collection curated to provide high-utility cards with updated aesthetic treatments for competitive and casual play.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, whose style is characterized by dynamic lighting and expressive character design. Ejsing sought to capture the shaman’s volatile connection to the divine forces of the Theros plane, depicting the figure in the midst of a ritualistic transmutation. Upon release, the card was received as a flavorful, high-variance inclusion for commander-style play, valued primarily for its ability to generate significant board presence at the cost of tactical predictability.
