Drifting Meadow

Drifting Meadow was first introduced in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, designed as part of a cycle of lands that offer both mana utility and the cycling mechanic. This ability allowed players to discard the card for a new draw, providing versatility in deck construction by mitigating the risk of drawing land in the late stages of a game. Its inclusion in Commander Anthology Volume II, released in 2018, served to provide a functional and accessible mana-fixing option for preconstructed Commander decks, ensuring that players had reliable access to card draw engines.

The artwork for this version was commissioned from Jonas De Ro, a digital artist known for his atmospheric and sprawling landscape illustrations. De Ro sought to capture the ethereal, quiet isolation of a meadow settling into twilight, emphasizing the card's theme of slow, rhythmic movement. His work on this piece was well-received within the community for its painterly aesthetic, which offered a distinct shift from the more rigid or mechanical illustrations found in other land cycles of that era.
