Drill Bit

Drill Bit was released in early 2019 as part of the Ravnica Allegiance set, a continuation of the modern revisit to the iconic Ravnica cityscape in the Magic: The Gathering card game. The card represents the philosophy of the Rakdos Cult, a faction characterized by chaos, hedonism, and brutal spectacle. Mechanically, it serves as a discard spell that benefits from the spectacle mechanic, allowing players to pay a reduced mana cost if an opponent has already lost life during the turn.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work often defines the dark, visceral aesthetic of the Rakdos guild. The visual design focuses on the invasive and intrusive nature of the spell, depicting a magically augmented drilling device piercing through magical defenses to extract information or influence a target's psyche. It was received by players as a functional role-player in aggressive black-red decks, particularly within the Standard format of the time where early disruption was essential for maintaining pressure.
