Shimmer of Possibility

Shimmer of Possibility was released in January 2019 as part of the Ravnica Allegiance expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to function as a common-rarity deck-manipulation spell, fitting into the set's mechanical focus on the Simic Combine, a guild within the Ravnica plane known for its biological experimentation and focus on growth and transformation. By allowing a player to look at the top four cards of their library and put one into their hand, it provided a flexible tool for consistency in Limited and Constructed formats alike.

The card's illustration was created by artist Titus Lunter, who captured the fluid, ethereal nature of Simic magic. Lunter utilized a palette of blues and greens to evoke the essence of the guild, centering the imagery on the magical distillation process characteristic of the Ravnica cityscape. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the player base as an efficient utility spell, finding a steady place in various blue-aligned decks due to its ability to smooth out draws in the early stages of a game.
