Dryad Arbor

Dryad Arbor first appeared as a functional oddity in the Future Sight expansion, created to explore the design space of cards that exist as both lands and creatures. The card represents a living manifestation of a forest, a concept that challenges standard deck-building mechanics by functioning as a land that can be affected by creature-based abilities and summoning sickness. Its unique nature as a non-basic land with a mana ability has made it a staple in various formats where the synergy between land-drops and creature-type interactions is prioritized.

This specific iteration, released in the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, utilizes the thematic aesthetic of the host expansion to reimagine the dryad through a horror-inspired lens. While the mechanical identity of the card remains consistent with its original printing, the artistic direction for this version emphasizes the unsettling and gothic tone of the Duskmourn plane. The design team sought to preserve the utility of the original while grounding it firmly within the haunted mansion narrative that defines this particular series of Commander releases.
