Dune-Brood Nephilim

Dune-Brood Nephilim was released in 2006 as part of the Guildpact expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a rare creature card, it was designed to represent a four-color entity within the Ravnica block's complex color-alignment system. It emerged during a period of mechanical experimentation for Wizards of the Coast, intended to challenge players with unique deck-building constraints by requiring four distinct mana colors to cast.

The card’s striking illustration was created by artist Dan Dos Santos, who sought to capture a sense of ancient, desert-bound mysticism. The Nephilim were lore-heavy creatures depicted as prehistoric, god-like beings emerging from the subterranean depths of the city-plane of Ravnica. While the card is often discussed by fans for its innovative design space, it is remembered as a cult favorite rather than a staple, appreciated more for its distinct visual aesthetic and challenging gameplay profile than for widespread tournament success.
