Provenance

Where it came from

Dune-Brood Nephilim was originally released in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Guildpact. As part of the Nephilim cycle, these four-color creatures were designed to represent the chaos and lack of alignment within the city of Ravnica, deliberately breaking the traditional color pie constraints of the game to provide unique, build-around-me challenges for players during that era.

The card was illustrated by Jeremy Jarvis, who leaned into the surreal and grotesque aesthetic associated with the Nephilim lore. The artwork emphasizes the creature's monstrous, amorphous nature, meant to feel otherworldly and out of place compared to the structured guilds of the setting. It has since appeared on The List, a curated collection of reprints included in modern expansion boosters, which serves to introduce classic designs to newer generations of collectors and players.
