Earthquake

Released in 1994, the Revised Edition served as the third core set for Magic: The Gathering, designed to satisfy the exploding demand for the game following its initial launch. As a reprint set, it gathered cards from the earlier Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited printings, standardizing the game's rules and card pool for a widening player base. The set introduced a white-bordered aesthetic to distinguish it from the limited print runs of its predecessors, marking a pivotal moment in the transition of Magic from a niche hobby to a global phenomenon.

The Earthquake card was illustrated by Dan Frazier, one of the original artists who defined the game's early visual identity. Frazier’s work on this card depicts a visceral, literal upheaval of the earth, utilizing his characteristic style that favored bold shapes and high-contrast imagery to communicate the card's function as a mass-damage sorcery.
