Provenance

Where it came from

Edge of Autumn was first printed as part of the Future Sight expansion in 2007, designed by Aaron Forsythe. It was later reprinted in the 2011 Duel Decks: Knights vs. Dragons set, a product line intended to provide players with balanced, pre-constructed decks themed around iconic fantasy archetypes. The card was illustrated by Heather Hudson, whose work during this era often leaned into traditional fantasy aesthetics, capturing the fleeting nature of the season through a blend of organic textures and muted, autumnal color palettes.

The card functions as a flexible mana-fixing tool, allowing players to exchange lands for card draw in the late game. Its inclusion in the Knights vs. Dragons Duel Deck provided a mechanical pivot for the green-aligned Dragon deck, helping to smooth out mana bases that were often cumbersome in the two-colored lists typical of that era. Reception among players was largely positive, as the card quickly became a staple in Commander formats due to its unique ability to sacrifice a land for value.
