What it does
Menace
Whenever this creature attacks a player, exile all cards from that player's hand, then they draw that many cards. You may play lands and cast spells from among the exiled cards for as long as they remain exiled. If you cast a spell this way, you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast it.

Where it came from
The Elder Brain card was released as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate set in 2022. This expansion was designed to celebrate the Dungeons & Dragons lore and mechanics, integrating the tactical depth of the tabletop role-playing game into the card game format. The card serves as a thematic centerpiece, representing the iconic, hive-minded monstrosities that dwell in the Underdark of the Forgotten Realms setting.
The illustration for the card was completed by artist Andrew Mar, who captured the grotesque and alien nature of the entity. The design process focused on translating the creature's psychic abilities—specifically its capacity to consume memories and control the actions of others—into a mechanically resonant card effect. Upon its release, players noted the card for its high-impact, chaotic gameplay potential, which aligns with the high-variance style typically found in multiplayer Commander formats.
