Where it came from
Elder Owyn Lyons first appeared in the 2008 video game Fallout 3 as the leader of the Brotherhood of Steel’s East Coast chapter. This card, numbered 631 and released as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering Fallout Commander set, adapts his likeness to fit the game's iconic fantasy aesthetic. The card design emphasizes his role as a tactical commander, reflecting the character’s struggle to balance his rigid military doctrine with a newfound moral obligation to protect the citizens of the Capital Wasteland.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Livia Prima, who worked to capture the stoic, battle-worn presence of the Elder within the stylized framing of the Magic: The Gathering layout. By focusing on his power armor and commanding posture, the design reflects the transition of the character from a lore-heavy NPC to a playable strategic asset. Within the set, the card is widely recognized for its synergy with artifact-focused decks, honoring the Brotherhood’s commitment to scavenging and utilizing pre-war technology.
