Where it came from
Electrodominance was released in early 2019 as a rare card within the Ravnica Allegiance set, the second expansion in the third Ravnica block. Mechanically designed to embody the chaotic and high-energy nature of the Izzet League, the card reflects the guild's penchant for experimental spellcasting by allowing players to cast other spells for free after dealing direct damage. Its inclusion in the set was intended to provide red-aligned decks with a versatile tool that scales effectively from the early to late stages of a game.
The artwork for Electrodominance was created by illustrator Johannes Voss, who sought to capture the visceral sensation of raw magical discharge. Voss is a long-standing contributor to the game, and his vision for this card leaned into dynamic, vibrant lighting effects to mirror the explosive nature of the Izzet guild's magical technology. Upon release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its utility in both Standard and eternal formats, eventually becoming a staple in various deck archetypes that rely on cheating high-mana-value spells into play.
