Where it came from
Electrostatic Infantry was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked a return to the plane of Dominaria, a cornerstone of the game's lore, coinciding with the franchise's 30th anniversary. Designed as an uncommon creature card, it was crafted to support spell-heavy playstyles by utilizing the Prowess mechanic, which provides incremental power increases whenever a player casts noncreature spells.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Fajarengga, who chose a vibrant, kinetic aesthetic to reflect the creature's nature as an elemental conduit. The design was received as a strong value piece within the Limited format, praised for its efficiency and ability to scale throughout the mid-game. Its visual depiction of crackling energy and infantry armor serves to bridge the gap between Dominaria's traditional military conflicts and the high-fantasy magical forces central to the setting.
