Where it came from
Elephant Grass was originally released in the Vision expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 1997. As part of a set heavily influenced by the themes of Mirage, it was designed to provide white decks with a defensive enchantment that could stall aggressive creature strategies, reflecting the set's focus on tactical battlefield control and resource management.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who provided a vivid, rhythmic depiction of the grass that became a signature look for the card. Over time, the item gained renewed visibility when it was included in The List, a curated selection of reprints integrated into modern booster packs to provide players with access to older, mechanically unique cards.
