Provenance

Where it came from

The Elvish Bard card was released as part of the 2001 Deckmasters set, a unique collection designed to celebrate the history of Wizards of the Coast's trading card games. This release served as a standalone boxed product that included pre-constructed decks for both Magic: The Gathering and Netrunner, featuring iconic artwork reimagined by various fantasy illustrators to showcase the thematic evolution of these games.

The design of the Elvish Bard card draws upon the classic high-fantasy aesthetic prevalent in early nineties gaming culture. The artwork emphasizes the mystical, nature-bound identity of the Elves, utilizing vibrant colors and fluid lines to capture the ethereal essence of a musical forest spirit. Upon its release, the set was received by the community as a nostalgic tribute to the company’s foundational titles, valued by collectors more for its curated retrospective quality than for its impact on competitive play.
