Provenance

Where it came from

The Elvish Lyrist was originally illustrated by Alan Pollack and first appeared in the Urza's Destiny set of Magic: The Gathering in 1999. It was later reprinted in the Seventh Edition core set, which marked the first time the game utilized a white-border design for the core set cards while simultaneously introducing the new card frame layout that would define the modern era of the game.

Designed as a utility creature within the green color identity, the card reflects the thematic focus on nature-based magic by allowing players to sacrifice the creature to destroy target enchantments. While the card is not considered a competitive staple, its inclusion in Seventh Edition represents an era where Wizards of the Coast sought to refine the core set experience by selecting iconic low-mana creatures to provide players with accessible, tactical interaction.
