Where it came from
Encouraging Aviator // Jump is a double-faced card released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Secrets of Strixhaven, which serves as a supplemental expansion focused on the mystical university of Strixhaven. The set was designed to integrate with the main Strixhaven: School of Mages release, utilizing the set's unique modal double-faced card mechanic to represent the duality of learning spells and practicing them. The card itself embodies the adventurous spirit of the Silverquill college, blending academic discipline with the kinetic energy of flight and mobility.
The artwork, illustrated by Billy Christian, captures the whimsical yet scholarly aesthetic prevalent throughout the Strixhaven campus. Christian's design leans into the bright, airy palette associated with the school's creative pursuits, aiming to evoke a sense of inspiration and elevation. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional tool for Limited gameplay, specifically recognized for its ability to provide aerial support and tempo advantages in the competitive environment of Strixhaven-themed drafts.
