Where it came from
End-Raze Forerunners was released in early 2019 as part of the Ravnica Allegiance expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a high-mana value creature, it was intended to serve as a powerful 'finisher' for green-aligned decks, specifically drawing inspiration from the Gruul Clans of the Ravnica plane. Its mechanics emphasize the aggressive, board-swarming playstyle characteristic of the Gruul guild, rewarding players for deploying a wide array of creatures before casting the spell.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's established visual identity to depict the gargantuan boar-like beasts. Voss aimed to capture the raw, destructive force of the Forerunners, balancing their overwhelming physical scale with the chaotic, guild-centric aesthetic of the expansion. Upon release, the card was widely received by the community as a potent alternative for players looking for a budget-friendly or Commander-focused finisher that offers immediate combat impact.
