Enduring Ideal

Enduring Ideal was released in 2005 as a rare enchantment in the Saviors of Kamigawa set. It was designed as a capstone for the set's epic mechanic, which forces players to sacrifice the ability to cast further spells for the remainder of the game in exchange for a powerful, recurring effect. This high-risk, high-reward design was intended to reward players who could assemble a robust board state before initiating the enchantment's search-and-play capability.

The card’s illustration was created by Aleksi Briclot, whose work is noted for its ethereal and atmospheric quality within the Kamigawa block. The artwork depicts a monk reaching toward a celestial light, reinforcing the card's theme of spiritual ascension and ultimate commitment. Upon its release, it became a staple of combo-oriented deck building, particularly within the Modern and Legacy formats, where it serves as a centerpiece for decks built to bypass casting restrictions and summon powerful permanents directly from the library.
