Provenance

Where it came from

Enduring Renewal was originally printed in the 1994 Alliances expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was designed as an enchantment that provides a recursive loop for creature cards at the cost of restricting hand size, a mechanic intended to create high-risk, high-reward synergies in white decks. Its name and effect reflect the recurring nature of life and death, themes central to the game's early thematic exploration of magical cycles.

The Timeshifted version, numbered 7 in the Time Spiral set released in 2006, features artwork by Harold McNeill. This set was designed to pay homage to the game's history by reprinting iconic or mechanically significant cards with their original art, but utilizing the updated card frame of the modern era. McNeill's style is noted for its distinctive, often somber illustrative approach that defined much of the aesthetic of the mid-1990s era of the game.
