Where it came from
Energy Field was released in 1998 as part of the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the first set in the Urza Block, it centered on the artificer Urza and introduced complex enchantments and artifacts that defined the game's evolving mechanical depth during the late nineties.
The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, a renowned fantasy artist whose work often blends classical techniques with ethereal, imaginative subjects. He designed the piece to visually represent the protective barrier described in the game text, emphasizing a shimmering, mystical quality that distinguishes it from the more grounded artifact imagery found elsewhere in the set.
