What it does
Each opponent faces a villainous choice — They exile cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card, then you may cast that card without paying its mana cost, or that player exiles the top four cards of their library and Ensnared by the Mara deals damage equal to the total mana value of those exiled cards to that player.

Where it came from
Ensnared by the Mara is a trading card released as part of the Doctor Who CCG by Wizards of the Coast in the early 2000s. The card depicts a sequence from the 1982 serial Kinda, featuring the Fifth Doctor's companion Tegan Jovanka. This set was designed to capture the decades-long history of the television series, bringing together iconic villains, companions, and moments from the classic era of the show to appeal to long-time fans and tabletop gamers.
The imagery on the card is derived from the production stills of the serial, which was noted for its experimental, psychological approach to the science fiction genre. The design team focused on maintaining a consistent aesthetic across the game that honored the distinct visual language of various Doctor Who eras. Upon release, the set was received as a nostalgic tribute, with the card art valued by collectors for its role in cataloging the vast history of the series' lore.
