What it does
Each opponent faces a villainous choice — They exile cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card, then you may cast that card without paying its mana cost, or that player exiles the top four cards of their library and Ensnared by the Mara deals damage equal to the total mana value of those exiled cards to that player.

Where it came from
Ensnared by the Mara is a card featured in the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond: Doctor Who set, released in 2023. The set was created to integrate the long-running British science fiction series into the tabletop card game ecosystem, specifically focusing on the fifth incarnation of the Doctor. The card represents the antagonist from the serial 'Kinda' and its sequel 'Snakedance,' drawing thematic inspiration from the Mara’s ability to manipulate minds through dreams and mirrors.
The artwork for this card was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to reflect the surreal and psychological horror associated with the Mara’s manifestation in the series. It utilizes the game's standardized card frame for the set, which incorporates iconic Gallifreyan-inspired aesthetics. Upon its release, the card was received primarily by fans of both franchises as a flavorful inclusion in black-aligned commander decks, valued for its ability to mimic the character's signature control over its victims.
