Entrails Feaster

Entrails Feaster was released in 2002 as part of the Onslaught expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked a significant shift in the game's design philosophy, focusing heavily on creature-based combat and the reintroduction of the 'morph' mechanic, which allowed cards to be played face-down. The Feaster, a black-aligned creature with an ability to exile cards from graveyards, was designed to provide utility in the graveyard-centric meta of the time, serving as a tactical tool to disrupt opponents while providing a modest body on the board.

The card's unsettling illustration was created by artist Carl Critchlow, whose distinct, dark aesthetic is a hallmark of the era's gothic fantasy style. Critchlow sought to evoke the grotesque nature of the creature, emphasizing the visceral theme of a scavenger thriving in the aftermath of battle. Upon release, the card was viewed primarily as a functional role-player within the draft environment of Onslaught, appreciated by players for its ability to interact with the graveyard rather than as a centerpiece for competitive tournament archetypes.
