Where it came from
Eternal Taskmaster was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Foundations Jumpstart set, which launched in late 2024. Designed as an entry point for new players, the set features thematic, ready-to-play half-decks intended to simplify the onboarding experience while introducing core mechanics of the game's long-running black mana identity.
The art and design for the card reflect the necromantic aesthetic common to the set’s black-aligned archetypes, emphasizing the theme of reanimation and resource management. By allowing players to return creatures from the graveyard to the hand, the card serves as a functional tool for teaching players the value of graveyard recursion and incremental card advantage.
