Where it came from
Eternal Taskmaster was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Jumpstart. This product was designed as a unique, pick-up-and-play experience that combined pre-constructed packets to facilitate quick games for both new and veteran players. The card was specifically included in the 'Reanimated' themed deck, which focused on the game's graveyard-interaction mechanics.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss. His design approach for this piece focuses on the macabre aesthetic of the card's ability to return creature cards from the graveyard to the hand, emphasizing the theme of necromantic utility. Within the Jumpstart set, the card was received as a functional tool for midrange strategies, fitting into the broader design philosophy of providing reliable, thematic support for various color-pair archetypes.
