Where it came from
Evincar's Justice was released in 1997 as part of the Tempest expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a sorcery spell that deals damage to each creature and player, it served as a powerful board-clearing tool within the game's mechanics, reflecting the harsh, atmospheric theme of the Rath plane which defined the Tempest set.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Christopher Rush, a legendary figure in Magic's early history known for iconic pieces like Black Lotus. Rush’s design for this card captures the malevolent authority of the Rath plane's leaders, utilizing a dark and imposing aesthetic that resonated with players looking for efficient mass-removal options in competitive play.
