Provenance

Where it came from

Explore was included as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. This collaboration integrated the grimdark aesthetic of the Warhammer 40,000 universe into the Magic: The Gathering card game, designed to appeal to both tabletop wargaming enthusiasts and existing card game players by blending iconic mechanics with science-fiction lore.

The card features artwork by Jason A. Engle, who captures the expansionist and tactical nature of the Imperium of Man. The design sought to translate the thematic concept of rapid troop deployment and planetary reconnaissance into the card's functional ability to play extra lands, fitting seamlessly into the aggressive, expansion-focused playstyles of the associated Commander decks.
