Where it came from
Exsanguinate originally debuted in the Scars of Mirrodin expansion in 2010. Designed by the Magic: The Gathering research and development team, the card was conceived as a powerful black sorcery meant to provide a scaling win condition that doubles as a way to stabilize a player's life total in multiplayer formats like Commander.
The artwork for the card was created by Aleksi Briclot.
