Extremely Slow Zombie

Extremely Slow Zombie was released in 2017 as part of the Unstable set, the third standalone expansion for the Magic: The Gathering 'Un-set' series. These sets are designed to explore unconventional mechanics, humor, and satirical themes that fall outside the traditional competitive ruleset. The card was specifically crafted to play with the concept of card movement, requiring the physical card to be moved slowly across the game table to attack.

The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, who leaned into the humorous, decaying aesthetic typical of the Unstable line. By giving the creature an ability that relies on the player's physical coordination and the literal speed of their hand, the design highlights the playful nature of the Un-sets, which prioritize interactive, social gameplay over standard tournament efficacy. It remains a notable example of how the design team utilizes the unique nature of tabletop gaming to blend meta-commentary with traditional card mechanics.
