Where it came from
Fa'adiyah Seer was released in 2007 as part of the Planar Chaos expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed around the concept of an alternate timeline, exploring how the game's mechanics and color identity might have shifted if history had unfolded differently. Within this context, the card was created to represent a thematic bend in the color pie, moving a traditional green-aligned effect into a new mechanical space.
The card was illustrated by artist Matt Cavotta, who has been a long-time contributor to the game's visual identity. His design sought to capture the enigmatic and mystical quality of the seer, utilizing a muted, earthy palette consistent with the card's nature-aligned faction. Upon release, the card was received as a niche functional utility piece, appreciated by players for its role in enabling specific card selection strategies within the limited and casual formats of the era.
