What it does
Counter target non-Faerie spell. If that spell is countered this way, exile it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard.
The fae are so quick and their life spans so short that it's difficult to get retribution for their pranks.

Where it came from
Faerie Trickery was released in the 2007 Magic: The Gathering set Lorwyn, a block heavily inspired by Celtic mythology and the whimsical, often dark folklore of the Fae. As a counterspell with the 'faerie' creature type synergy, it was designed to support the tribal mechanics that defined the set's gameplay, offering players a way to interact with spells while advancing the broader strategic theme of faerie-based disruption.
The card's striking illustration was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, who utilized a vivid, painterly style to capture the mischievous and slightly sinister nature of the Lorwyn faeries. The design was received as a functional, flavorful addition to the set, effectively translating the archetype of the 'counterspell' into the visual language of the plane’s unique ecosystem of tricksters and shapeshifters.
