Where it came from
Feast of Sanity was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to introduce cards directly into the Modern format, bypassing the standard rotation of Standard-legal expansions. This specific card was created to provide support for discard-themed archetypes, functioning as a blue enchantment that turns the act of discarding cards into a tactical advantage by allowing players to draw and discard for card selection.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized a surrealist aesthetic to capture the card's theme of madness and obsession. The design intention was to offer a lower-mana alternative to similar effects, providing deck builders with a consistent way to filter their hands. Upon release, it was received as a niche but effective utility piece for specific 'madness' and graveyard-focused strategies within the format.
