Where it came from
Resurgent Belief was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was explicitly designed for the Modern format, aiming to introduce powerful cards that balance nostalgia with new mechanical depth. The card draws heavily on the imagery and mechanics associated with the Urza’s Saga expansion from 1999, specifically referencing the 'Suspend' keyword and the theme of returning enchantments from the graveyard to the battlefield.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk. He sought to capture the ethereal, monumental scale of the setting, focusing on themes of renewal and historical memory. The design emphasizes the visual language of the game's high-fantasy aesthetic, utilizing sweeping compositions and magical light effects to convey the powerful nature of the spell, which has been noted by players for its technical synergy within specific deck archetypes.
