Fen Hauler

Fen Hauler was originally released as part of the Aether Revolt expansion for Magic: The Gathering in early 2017. Designed to fit the set's high-energy 'steampunk' aesthetic set on the plane of Kaladesh, the card serves as a common-rarity creature that emphasizes the set's mechanical focus on energy counters and artifact synergies. Its inclusion in 'The List' is a curatorial initiative by Wizards of the Coast, where select cards from the game's history are reprinted in Set Boosters to allow newer players access to functional cards from past eras.

The illustration, created by artist Igor Kieryluk, depicts the creature as a bulky, industrial construct reflecting the inventive spirit of the world of Kaladesh. Kieryluk’s design leans into the thematic visual language of the plane, which draws inspiration from Indian culture and ornate art deco styles. Upon its release, the card was received as a straightforward limited-format tool, valued by players for its ability to interact with the Aether Revolt expansion's unique mechanics while providing a cohesive visual narrative consistent with the set's artistic direction.
