Fieldmist Borderpost

Fieldmist Borderpost was released in 2009 as part of the Alara Reborn expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed as part of a cycle of artifacts that represented the convergence of the five shards of Alara, specifically bridging the bant white-aligned and blue-aligned mana sources. These cards served a dual purpose in gameplay, functioning as mana-producing artifacts that could also be played by returning a land to the owner's hand, reflecting the set's central theme of mana stabilization.

The artwork for the card was illustrated by Dave Kendall, whose work throughout the Alara block emphasized the otherworldly, fractured nature of the plane's environment. Kendall’s design utilizes a distinct color palette to represent the fusion of the Bant and Esper regions, employing architectural motifs that highlight the mystical transition between these two distinct magical landscapes. Upon its release, the Borderpost cycle was noted by players for its unconventional mana-fixing utility and its specific role in aggressive deck archetypes of the era.
