Where it came from
Fierce Empath was originally printed as a common card in the Scourge set for Magic: The Gathering in 2003, designed to serve as a functional tutor effect that could fetch high-mana creatures. It became a staple in Commander formats, where its ability to bridge the gap between early-game mana ramp and late-game threats provided consistent utility for green-aligned decks.
The Secret Lair version featuring collector number 767 was released as part of a specialized promotional drop. The illustration reflects the thematic direction of the Secret Lair series, which often collaborates with independent artists to reimagine established cards through unique, stylized aesthetics. This version was well-received by players who prioritize art variety and the visual identity of their card collections.
