Fiery Fall was originally released as part of the Conflux expansion in 2009 and was later reprinted in the 2013 Modern Masters set, identified as card number 113. Designed as a common-rarity instant, it reflects the flexible utility often found in red spells, combining direct damage with a landcycling mechanic that allows players to trade the card for a basic land when its primary effect is not needed. This versatility is a hallmark of the Alara block design philosophy, which emphasized multi-functional cards to smooth out gameplay.

The card’s artwork was provided by the fantasy illustrator Daarken. Known for his evocative work in the trading card game industry, Daarken aimed to capture the visceral nature of pyromancy, depicting a sudden, explosive downpour of flame. The illustration was well-received for its dynamic composition and thematic alignment with the destructive, chaotic energy characteristic of red-aligned magic in the game's color pie.
