Provenance

Where it came from

Fiery Gambit was originally released in the Mirrodin expansion in 2003, designed as a high-risk, high-reward red sorcery that captures the chaotic essence of coin flipping in Magic: The Gathering. Created during a period when the game was exploring the mechanical themes of the artifact-centric Mirrodin plane, the card was illustrated by Greg Staples. His artwork depicts a frantic, desperate moment of gambling, perfectly mirroring the card's mechanic where players flip coins to potentially draw cards or deal significant damage.

The version from 'The List' is a special reprinting that introduces older, out-of-print cards into modern booster packs, allowing players to discover vintage designs within contemporary sets. Because it appeared on The List, this iteration serves as a bridge between the early 2000s era of card design and current play environments. It remains a beloved cult classic among players who appreciate the game's more unpredictable and whimsical elements, even if it is rarely seen in highly competitive tournament circuits.
