Provenance

Where it came from

Filigree Angel was originally released in the 2004 Scourge expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by artist Greg Hildebrandt, the card depicts a towering, intricate construct of metal and light. The piece reflects Hildebrandt’s characteristic use of bold highlights and dramatic, painterly lighting, fitting the high-fantasy aesthetic that defined the Scourge set and the broader Onslaught block.

The card was later included in 'The List', a curated selection of reprints integrated into modern Set Boosters beginning in 2020. This initiative was designed to provide players with access to older, iconic, or mechanically interesting cards from the game's history. By reissuing Filigree Angel in this format, Wizards of the Coast allowed the card to reach a new generation of players, maintaining its presence in the game’s ever-expanding card pool.
