Provenance

Where it came from

Final Fortune was originally printed in the Mirage expansion in 1996, designed as a high-risk red sorcery that grants an extra turn at the cost of losing the game at the end of that turn. It emerged from the creative philosophy of the mid-nineties, where Wizards of the Coast sought to explore 'all or nothing' mechanics that rewarded players for aggressive, last-ditch tactical maneuvers.

The Seventh Edition version, released in 2001, marked the first time this card featured in the core set rotation, utilizing updated border frames and refreshed layout standards. The illustration for this printing was provided by artist Quinton Hoover, whose distinct, painterly style focused on the visceral intensity of the spell, capturing the desperate duality of achieving total victory or immediate defeat.
