Fireslinger

Fireslinger was originally released as part of the 2008 Duel Decks: Jace vs. Chandra, a product designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce players to the iconic rivalry between two of the game's most prominent planeswalkers. The deck was specifically crafted to represent Chandra Nalaar's aggressive, red-aligned pyromancy, serving as a functional tool for quick, damage-focused gameplay. This particular card, featuring the illustration by Greg Staples, emphasizes the character's impulsive nature and affinity for fire, which was a core thematic goal for the deck's aesthetic.

The reception of this duel deck was generally positive, as it provided a curated play experience that highlighted the thematic contrast between the cunning blue spells of Jace Beleren and the direct, destructive impact of Chandra's red cards. The artwork and the card's ability—allowing a player to deal damage to both an opponent and themselves—perfectly encapsulated the 'glass cannon' philosophy of red-aligned decks at the time. It remains a notable piece for collectors interested in the evolution of Magic: The Gathering's narrative-focused starter products.
