Where it came from
Firja's Retribution was released in 2021 as part of the Kaldheim expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents a Saga, a specialized enchantment type introduced to illustrate the myths and legends of the set's Norse-inspired plane. Designed as a rare, this specific version features unique foil treatment typical of promotional cards distributed through Wizards of the Coast's various organized play programs.
The artwork was illustrated by Jason Rainville, whose contribution to the set aimed to capture the dramatic, atmospheric nature of the Valkyries. The design intent behind the card's mechanics was to mirror the narrative of the card's title—a sequence of preparation, aggression, and eventual judgment. Upon release, it was well-received by players focusing on Orzhov-colored archetypes for its utility in both aggressive and control-leaning decks.
