Where it came from
The Cosmos Charger was released as part of the Kaldheim set in 2021, a Magic: The Gathering expansion heavily inspired by Norse mythology and Viking culture. This specific card, bearing collector number 51s, represents a promotional variant of the card distributed through Wizards of the Coast's organized play channels. It serves to showcase the distinct visual language of the set, which emphasized the shimmering, ethereal nature of the 'Cosmos' that connects the various realms in the game's lore.
The artwork for this card was rendered to emphasize the movement and energy of a celestial steed, aligning with the set's high-fantasy aesthetic. Designers focused on creating a card that felt both mechanically integrated into the 'foretell' keyword mechanic introduced in Kaldheim and visually striking for collectors. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional inclusion for blue-aligned decks, with its promo variant specifically sought after by players who appreciate the unique frame treatments characteristic of limited-release promotional items.
