Flashfreeze

Flashfreeze was first introduced in the Coldsnap expansion in 2006, reflecting the set's thematic focus on the icy, inhospitable environment of the Dominarian ice age. When the card was reprinted in the Tenth Edition core set in 2007, it maintained its function as a targeted counterspell designed to provide green and red decks with a rare, color-specific answer to blue spells. The design follows the mechanical philosophy of the time, emphasizing color pie limitations by restricting its effectiveness to spells cast by an opponent playing blue.

The artwork for the Tenth Edition printing was illustrated by Greg Staples, who rendered the spell as a sudden, crystalline solidification of magical energy.
