Force Bubble

Force Bubble was released in 1998 as part of the Scourge set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set was designed to explore themes of sacrifice and mechanical complexity, serving as the second expansion in the Urza block. The card features an enchantment mechanic that reflects the high-fantasy narrative of the game, where mages manipulate elemental energies to protect themselves from incoming magical attacks.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, whose work defined much of the visual aesthetic of the late 1990s Magic expansions. Hudson focused on a stylized, ethereal representation of a defensive ward, aiming to capture the fleeting nature of magical barriers. While the card is often remembered for its unique, albeit situational, defensive gameplay mechanics, it remains a notable example of the era's focus on experimental game design and distinct character-driven card art.
