Where it came from
Ambush Commander was released in 2003 as part of the Scourge expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set served as the concluding chapter of the Onslaught block, a narrative arc centered on the conflict between the Krosa forest and the artificial plane of Mirrodin. The card was designed to highlight the 'elf-tribal' theme prevalent in the set, mechanically rewarding players for controlling multiple forest creatures to overwhelm opponents.
