What it does
If it's not your turn, you may exile a blue card from your hand rather than pay this spell's mana cost.
Counter target noncreature spell. If that spell is countered this way, exile it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard.
"Try, if you must."

Where it came from
Force of Negation was first introduced in the 2019 Modern Horizons set, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a powerful tool to provide a safety valve for the Modern format. Its design philosophy echoes the classic Force of Will, allowing players to cast the spell for free by exiling a blue card from their hand, provided it is an opponent's turn. This mechanic was intended to give non-blue decks a fighting chance against explosive combo strategies while remaining balanced through the exile cost and the limitation that it only targets noncreature spells.
The Double Masters 2022 printing, specifically the version numbered 50, features the classic card frame aesthetic that revitalized interest in the card's visual history. As a staple in competitive play across Modern, Legacy, and Commander, it has become a cornerstone of blue-based interaction. The illustration by Greg Staples captures the intense, ethereal energy associated with countermagic, and the card is highly regarded by the community for its blend of high-level utility and iconic, moody artwork.
